Learning to navigate life’s storms and adversities can be overwhelming. We all will experience emotional and mental distress at some time in our life and it is Kathy‘s goal to help provide a transformative experience. Kathy is knowledgeable about diverse cultural groups and honors all people and the groups they represent. Her passion is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental therapeutic environment while incorporating various tools, knowledge, and support to navigate the complexities of clients’ lives. Her approach is based on the client’s presenting issues and strengths that may assist them in attaining their treatment goals. Kathy is passionate about wanting to help individuals and families holistically address challenges so that they can develop skills to work toward living and maintaining a meaningful and joyous life.
Kathy has worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), the Chicago Police Department, the Chicago Public School System, and Community Mental Health and Outreach settings.
She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Anger Management Specialist- II, Certified DBT, and Grief Educator. Kathy has a Master’s in Science from Chicago State University and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Adler University.
With advanced training in Gambling Addiction, Domestic Violence, and Crisis Management, and completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Kathy uses this experience in her work with couples.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT therapists help clients identify and challenge negative thoughts and beliefs, and develop more helpful coping mechanisms. CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy that can be helpful for a variety of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is a type of therapy that focuses on helping couples improve their communication and emotional connection. EFT therapists help couples identify and understand their emotional responses to each other, and develop new ways of communicating and interacting. EFT is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy that can be helpful for couples with relationship problems, such as conflict, communication difficulties, and infidelity.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of therapy that combines CBT with mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies. DBT therapists help clients learn how to regulate their emotions, tolerate distress, and improve their interpersonal relationships. DBT is a long-term, intensive therapy that can be helpful for people with borderline personality disorder, as well as other mental health conditions.
Mindfulness Based
Mindfulness-based therapy teaches people how to focus their attention on the present moment and accept their thoughts and feelings without judgment. This can be helpful for people with anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Mindfulness-based therapy can be delivered in a variety of formats, including individual therapy, group therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) programs.
Person-centered
Person-centered therapy focuses on the client's individual experience and values. The therapist creates a safe and supportive environment where the client can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Person-centered therapy is based on the belief that people have the capacity to heal themselves, and the therapist's role is to facilitate this process.
